An archive is a collection of historical records or physical materials made available in the physical form in a library or documentation center or on an online platform for access.
2. Any example of an archive?
The Kannada Archive has collected the old, rare and contemporary physical documents concerning Kannada language, literature, theater, movies, literary figures, etc. and has given access to their digitized version on this archive.
B. About Kannada Archive
1. What is the Kannada Archive?
Kannada Archive is a dream project of a group of creative and passionate Kannadigas to archive old, rare and contemporary documents concerning Kannada language, literature, theatre, movies, literary figures, etc.
2. What is the nature of the Kannada Archive initiative?
Kannada Archive is a not-for-profit initiative aimed at preserving and sharing Kannada-related documents available with an individual or an organization or in any external archives.
3. What is the objective of the archive?
To archive such documents that depict the legacy and richness of literary, historical and cultural value of Kannada in the form of author-signed books, autographs, photographs, letters, manuscripts, posters, pamphlets, text books, etc.
4. Is the Kannada Archive a government initiative or a personal initiative?
It is a personal initiative of a group of passionate and creative Kannadigas who dedicate their leisure time to maintain this archive.
C. Collection/ Content
1. What type of documents are archived in the Kannada Archive?
Kannada author signed books, autographs, photographs, letters, manuscripts, posters, pamphlets, text books, postal stamps/covers, etc.
2. Does this archive adds only Kannada-related documents?
We preferably archive Kannada/Karnataka related documents (see Content Scope).
3. Does not this archive add English or other regional language documents?
We preferably archive Kannada/Karnataka related documents (see Content Scope).
4. Why some collections have less number of items or documents?
The archiving of documents is a continuous process. We are adding whatever documents we are getting from different sources.
5. I know some old Kannada books. Will you be interested in archiving them?
Please share more details about such documents on: support@kannadaarchive.org That will help us decide.
6. I have some old letters. Will you be interested in archiving them?
Definitely, but we prefer such kinds concerning Kannada art, language, literature, theater, movies, etc. or letters exchanged with any literary figures, publishers, etc. Please share more details about the letters on: support@kannadaarchive.org That will help us decide.
7. I have some old Kannada movie tickets, posters, or theater tickets, posters, pamphlets, or brochures. Will you be interested in archiving them?
Yes, very much. Please mail the clearly scanned copies to support@kannadaarchive.org
8. I have some old Kannada/Karnataka-related postal stamps or postal covers. Will you be interested in considering them?

9. Will I get any financial benefit if I share old records with you?
No, we can only acknowledge your help.
10. I know someone or some organizations that is/are having the documents you usually archive. How can I share that information with you?

11. I shared some documents but they are not yet included in this archive. What could be the reasons?
The documents may be under consideration or review or or in process for uploading or they are not within the content scope of this archive. To know the specific reason, if any, please write to us on support@kannadaarchive.org
D. Archive Team
1. Who manages the Kannada Archive?
Please see ‘Our Team’ and ‘Our Volunteers.’
2. Does the core team of Kannada Archive work for other organizations?
Yes, some of us work full-time for different organizations, and some are freelancers. We dedicate our leisure time to building this archive. The employers of the team members or volunteers are not involved in the Kannada Archive initiative, either directly or indirectly.
3. Are the team members and volunteers of the Kannada Archive paid?
No, as it is a voluntary initiative.
4. What is the source of finance for maintaining this archive?
It’s a self-financed initiative on a no-profit or no-loss basis. Our greatest satisfaction would be serving the Kannada community.
5. Does the Kannada Archive team have relevant experience in archiving or documentation?
Yes, the team members have a varied working experience viz. in library science, information science, and archival science.
6. I want to speak to the Head or team members of Kannada Archive. How can I contact?

E. Volunteers
1. How can I join Kannada Archive as one of its volunteers?
Please write to contact@kannadaarchive.org and share your brief personal/professional profile.
2. What is the selection process of a volunteer?
It depends on the profile, requirement, and decision of the core team of Kannada Archive.
3. I have applied for 'Volunteer' but why i am not yet selected?
Your application may be under consideration or review. Please wait to get an email from our side. In case you do not hear from us within 15 days of applying for 'Volunteer', please write to us to know the specific reason on support@kannadaarchive.org
4. Do the volunteers of Kannada Archive work for other organizations?
Yes, some volunteers work for different organizations and they dedicate their leisure time to building this archive. But their employers are not involved in the Kannada Archive initiative, either directly or indirectly.
5. How does the Kannada Archive acknowledge the contributions of volunteers?
Kannada Archive acknowledges the contributions of volunteers by mentioning their names in the archive, unless they choose not to have their names mentioned.
6. Can volunteer(s) request a letter or certificate for their involvement in or contribution to the Kannada Archive as volunteers?
Yes, volunteer(s) can request a letter or certificate for their association with the Kannada Archive by writing to us at contact@kannadaarchive.org.
7. Can Kannada organization(s) contribute to the archive?
Yes, Kannada organizations can share their old, rare, or contemporary documents related to the scope of the archive for archiving (see Content). Their contributions will be duly acknowledged by mentioning the name of their organization.
8. Does the Kannada Archive sign written contracts with volunteers or organizations?
No, Kannada Archive does not sign written contracts with volunteers or organizations. Contributions are acknowledged, but no payment is made.
9. What types of support does Kannada Archive accept?
Kannada Archive accepts support such as technical assistance, collection development, or maintenance of the blog (subject to the requirement), etc. We acknowledge such support on our site.
F. Copyright/ Permission
1. Has the Kannada Archive obtained permission to provide open access to some archived items?
Yes, in some cases, Kannada Archive has obtained permission from the concerned organizations or/and copyright holders to provide open access.
2. Why do some documents have a direct link to third parties or external sources?
Yes, in some cases, we give hyperlinks to the third party or external sources due to space constraints or copyright issues. Moreover, it also creates awareness about such external sources.
3. How are the individuals or institutions (who have given permission or contributed some archival documents to this archive) acknowledged in the Kannada Archive?
Individuals or institutions that have given permission to provide open access to their materials or shared documents are duly acknowledged in the archive.
4. What is take-down notice?
A request by a copyright holder to remove the access to the content given on any online platform. The purpose of take-down notice is to abide by the copyright rules and also avoid violation of any copyright provisions.
5. Does the Kannada Archive consider take-down notices?
Yes, Kannada Archive considers and respects take-down notices.
6. What should someone do if they believe Kannada Archive has violated copyright provisions?
We respect copyright and all related legal frameworks. If any individual or organization finds that Kannada Archive has violated any of the copyright provisions, they are requested to share proof of the copyright violation to contact@kannadaarchive.org so that the public access to the respective items can be removed immediately.
7. How will Kannada Archive respond to a valid take-down request or notice?
Kannada Archive will honor a valid take-down notice if relevant proof of violation is communicated on contact@kannadaarchive.org so that we remove public access to the respective item or items immediately.

1. Can anyone access the metadata of the Kannada Archive?
Yes, anyone can access the metadata free of charge.
2. Why does Kannada Archive include metadata and hyperlinks to third-party links?
Kannada Archive includes metadata and hyperlinks to third-party links to add as many relevant documents as possible and to increase the effective reach and use of the archival documents.
3. Can the metadata be reused for commercial purposes?
No, the metadata cannot be reused for commercial purposes without formal permission from the archive team. It can only be reused for non-profit purposes, provided the archive is duly acknowledged.
4. Can the items in this archive be reproduced by anyone?
Yes, copies of the archived items can generally be reproduced for personal research, study, or educational, not-for-profit purposes only with proper acknowledgement to the source (Kannada Archive and external source, if any).
5. Can full items be sold commercially?
No, full items must not be sold commercially in any format or medium without formal permission from the copyright holders of the documents.
6. What should be done when using external or third-party links from the archive?
Due credit should be given to the external or third-party links when used. The archive is not responsible for any misuse of such links or items by any third party.
